The clean makeup brand Ami Colé secures investment from L’Oréal’s BOLD venture capital fund ahead of Sephora's expansion. Prior to this investment the brand raised $3.15 over two funding rounds.WHO: Launched in 2021, Ami Colé Beauty was founded by Glossier and L’Oréal alum Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye, is inspired by Senegal, and made in Harlem. The clean-beauty makeup brand is created to celebrate melanin-rich skin. The brand launched with three hero products, including a Skin-Enhancing Tint, Lip Treatment Oil, and Light-Catching Highlighter developed with input by 400 women. The brand has expanded to a suite of products to include eye and complexion. The brand is sold in the US and Canada at Sephora.WHY: The investment comes as the brand expands it retail footprint to all Sephora doors in the US and Canada. The capital infusion will be used to fuel the team and support the retail expansion.IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “We have a responsibility to grow brands that are going to represent the growth in the market for the next 10 or 20 years,” Carol Hamilton, Group President of Acquisitions and Business Development, L’Oréal USA, told WWD. “We’re interested in finding the next strategic brands and it is a continuation of our love of brands, as well as participation in their invention and creation. It’s our lifeblood.”Hamilton’s ethos for the deal revolved around “a really incredible founder,” she said, in addition to learning opportunities for L’Oréal. “We like to invest in brands and technologies that will change the beauty world for the future.
